Audition Information

The Los Angeles Youth Orchestra holds auditions for young musicians from throughout the Los Angeles area, aged 8-18, who have been studying for at least two years. Private instrumental study must continue while playing in the orchestra. We audition players of the following instruments:

For the audition each student should prepare:

  • a major and a minor scale of his choosing, in as many octaves as he can play
  • an unaccompanied solo work of at most five minutes in length
In addition, each student will be asked to sight-read.

There is a fee of $50 for the audition. This fee will be refunded only if the student is not admitted and will be credited toward the tuition for a student who joins the orchestra.

Tuition for the complete 2008-2009 season is $625, payable in full in September. Tuition for either the fall or winter semester separately is $325. Financial aid is available.
