Eve Cohen, Viola/Administrative Director

Eve came to this place by a circuitous route. She has an M.S. in Mathematics from Carnegie Mellon University, where she never quite managed to finish her Ph.D. on ω-order logic because she spent too much time playing chamber music. After graduate school she spent several decades doing government-sponsored computer science research in program verification and computer security at the Jet Propulsion Laboratory, the Aerospace Corporation, Trusted Information Systems and Network Associates. Near the end of that time her daughter, Elisabeth, was a student of Russell Steinberg at Milken Community High School, and Eve got to know Russell and admire the scope of his vision and his gift for and ferocious advocacy of music education. That, in combination with the tech bubble-burst and Russell's need for a new Administrative Director, brought her to LAYO.

In her copious free time Eve has raised two spectacular daughters, Elisabeth and Emma, and still spends an amazing amount of time playing chamber music. She has spent every summer of her adult life studying chamber music at the Chamber Music Conference of the East at Bennington College in Vermont, where she has been on the adminstrative staff practically forever.
